Political Leadership Standards (PLS)

 PRESENTATION:

  • Political Leadership Standards (PLS) - To achieve wise leadership in government, politicians should be required to meet pre-requisite standards to validate their 'wisdom' and skills for the job, just like all professionals are required to do for their jobs.
    (Time - 3mins 50secs)

If you want to significantly improve government leadership standards, then create assessment standards for 'wise leadership'.

What are they?

Political Leadership Standards would represent an essential and 'major improvement' to the failing political systems in the world today. They would simply require those who wish to enter political office, to prove that they have the necessary skills for such an important job. Surely this is not much to ask considering that virtually everyone else in society is required to meet pre-requisite standards for their jobs roles. Doctors, Surgeons, Lawyers, Teachers, Accountants, Dentists, Pilots, Plumbers, Electricians, Builders, Engineers...you name it. These people must all meet 'standards' BEFORE they are allowed to officially perform their job role in society. Why should politicians be exempt?

Politicians hold what would have to be, the most important job roles in society. They are responsible for millions of people's lives! And yet they only have to win what is no more than a 'popularity contest' or election to get their job. Does this seem very wise to you?

An 'election' is not a standard. It is no more than a 'marketing and promotion campaign' where candidates read 'prepared speeches' and attempt to sell themselves and their ideas to voters.

If you are going to elect someone into political power, why not first be absolutely sure that they are capable of doing the job well. Why not assess their wisdom? Why not assess their IQ? Why not assess their understanding of world events and the problems that humanity faces today? Why not make sure that they really do have the skills for the job and are capable of being a 'great leader'? Why settle for people that continually always lack these skills?

Let's face it - If they had these skills, then the world would not have so many problems today.

Political Leadership Standards would act as 'safeguard' against politicians that lack wisdom and integrity. They would allow voters to truly recognise if the person that they are considering voting for, actually had the wisdom and intelligence for the job. They would always GUARANTEE leadership of the highest possible standard!

The PLS Model - How would it work?

The model is essentially based on three levels of requirement.

Level 1 - Wisdom and General Knowledge Assessment Test

The aim of the test is to verify that the candidate has a diverse appreciation and knowledge of the many subjects that are relevant to a government leadership role. All candidates would require an intelligent mind and balanced emotional state in order to pass this test. The pass mark should be set at a high level.

The assessment test would be based around a multi-choice exam format. You would sit this test at an appropriate government office, on a secure computer system. It would include around 200 questions which assess the candidates knowledge on a wide range of subjects - wisdom, IQ logic and rationale, their understanding of the cause's behind the world's problems, local and world issues, leadership values, economic factors and their influence, religions and their influence, the environment, the mind and its effect in the world, etc.

A panel of experts would create the necessary test questions. The questions would be updated on a regular basis to keep in touch with the current events and changes in the world.

Only people with well-rounded mental skills and a 'capacity for wisdom' would successfully complete this first stage. Here is a brief sample test to give you a 'basic' idea. PLEASE NOTE - It is a 'general guideline' assessment test only!

Level 2 - People Skills Assessment Test

Having successfully proven that they have an intelligent mind, candidates would next be required to demonstrate their people skills. A healthy mind does not necessarily 'guarantee' that you also have good people skills. Practically speaking, no one should be working in a government leadership role without possessing good people skills.

It is important that political officials always set a good example to those that they represent. All too often, this does not happen. Politicians are continually fighting and squabbling amongst themselves, especially as it gets closer to an election. This sort of behaviour only reflects their lack of wisdom, understanding and compassion.

This assessment phase would require the candidate to demonstrate their skills in presenting ideas to the public. It would assess their ability to inspire, to persuade, to make speeches, to interact with groups, and similar roles involving people interaction. This part of the assessment test would also take a closer look at the person's wisdom and understanding to ensure that they have the skills to be a good leader.

All candidates that successfully complete these two levels will have proven that they have the skills for a job in political office. However a candidate should require level 3 status to qualify as the 'leader' of a country.

Level 3 - Leadership Assessment Test

The final assessment test is simply to see if the candidate has that extra something special. Does the candidate possess the courage and wisdom to be a great leader; someone that others will 'naturally' respect? A series of tests would be designed to assess this.

Ask yourself how many of the world's leaders would be in their roles today if they had to meet such pre-requisite tests? Clearly some would fail at the first level.

PLS is also designed to address the 'vote and hope' factor in politics today. People vote and then hope for good things from the leader and political party. Under the PLS system, candidates are screened for the necessary skills first. Those that pass, would have already PROVEN that they have what it takes to be a 'great leader'. Whomever you decide to vote for, is then guaranteed to do a great job. No more hit and hope.

This PLS model would be completely 'independent'. No political party would have any authority over it. It would be run by a completely independent organization.

The key quality missing in political leaders today is 'WISDOM'. Wise leadership will always lead you to peace, cooperation and unity in the world. Ignorance on the other hand, will always lead to wars, competitiveness and splits between countries. So to spot wisdom or ignorance from your political leaders, look for these signs. Does your leader encourage unity and cooperation, or does he/she use aggression and force to achieve their objectives?

When politicians are required to meet political leadership standards, you do more than just protect the future. You guarantee a better and safer world for everyone.
